This is a version of Firefox which is "locked" at a major release version, as opposed to a version of Firefox which just updates itself to the very latest version available. The ESR Version of Firefox won't receive any new features and will continue to work in the existing, expected way. However, the difference is that the ESR Version of Firefox will also continue to receive new security and bug fixes during its extended support time frame.

Please note: NVDA is only available for PCs running Microsoft Windows 7 SP1 and later. If you require a version of NVDA that can still run on Windows XP or Vista, please download the much older NVDA 2017.3 for Windows XP instead. NV Access does not however recommend or support running this older version on newer Operating systems.

Mozilla Firefox, or simply Firefox, is a free and open-source[11] web browser developed by the Mozilla Foundation and its subsidiary, the Mozilla Corporation. It uses the Gecko rendering engine to display web pages, which implements current and anticipated web standards.[12] In November 2017, Firefox began incorporating new technology under the code name "Quantum" to promote parallelism and a more intuitive user interface.[13] Firefox is available for Windows 7 and later versions, macOS, and Linux. Its unofficial ports are available for various Unix and Unix-like operating systems, including FreeBSD,[14] OpenBSD,[15] NetBSD,[16] illumos,[17] and Solaris Unix.[18] It is also available for Android and iOS. However, as with all other iOS web browsers, the iOS version uses the WebKit layout engine instead of Gecko due to platform requirements. An optimized version is also available on the Amazon Fire TV as one of the two main browsers available with Amazon's Silk Browser.[19]

Traditionally, installing the Windows version of Firefox entails visiting the Firefox website and downloading an installer package, depending on the desired localization and system architecture. In November 2021, Mozilla made Firefox available on Microsoft Store. The Store-distributed package does not interfere with the traditional installation.[175][176]

The Firefox port for OpenBSD is maintained by Landry Breuil since 2010. Firefox is regularly built for the current branch of the operating system, the latest versions are packaged for each release and remain frozen until the next release. In 2017, Landry began hosting packages of newer Firefox versions for OpenBSD releases from 6.0 onwards, making them available to installations without the ports system.[237]

Firefox source code is free software, with most of it being released under the Mozilla Public License (MPL) version 2.0.[10] This license permits anyone to view, modify, or redistribute the source code. As a result, several publicly released applications have been built from it, such as Netscape, Flock, Miro, GNU IceCat, Iceweasel, Songbird, Pale Moon, Waterfox, and Comodo IceDragon.[citation needed]

In the past, Firefox was licensed solely under the MPL, then version 1.1,[249] which the Free Software Foundation criticized for being weak copyleft, as the license permitted, in limited ways, proprietary derivative works. Additionally, code only licensed under MPL 1.1 could not legally be linked with code under the GPL.[250][251] To address these concerns, Mozilla re-licensed most of Firefox under the tri-license scheme of MPL 1.1, GPL 2.0, or LGPL 2.1. Since the re-licensing, developers were free to choose the license under which they received most of the code, to suit their intended use: GPL or LGPL linking and derivative works when one of those licenses is chosen, or MPL use (including the possibility of proprietary derivative works) if they chose the MPL.[249] However, on January 3, 2012, Mozilla released the GPL-compatible MPL 2.0,[252] and with the release of Firefox 13 on June 5, 2012, Mozilla used it to replace the tri-licensing scheme.[253]

To allow distributions of the code without using the official branding, the Firefox build system contains a "branding switch". This switch, often used for alphas ("Auroras") of future Firefox versions, allows the code to be compiled without the official logo and name and can allow a derivative work unencumbered by restrictions on the Firefox trademark to be produced. In the unbranded build, the trademarked logo and name are replaced with a freely distributable generic globe logo and the name of the release series from which the modified version was derived.[citation needed]

GNUzilla is the GNU version of the Mozilla suite, and GNU IceCat is the GNU version of the Firefox browser. Its main advantage is an ethical one: it is entirely free software. While the Firefox source code from the Mozilla project is free software, they distribute and recommend nonfree software as plug-ins and addons. Also their trademark license imposes requirements for the distribution of modified versions that make it inconvenient to exercise freedom 3.

This exception usually occurs when Firefox version has been upgraded to the latest version. The resolution for this exception is to update the selenium jar file and gecko driver to the latest version and use the same.

Automatic upgrades from previous 2.53.x versions are enabled for thisrelease, but if you have problems with it upgrading or you need to upgrade froma version earlier than 2.53.5, please download the full installer from thedownloads section and install SeaMonkey 2.53.15 manually over the previousversion.

Firefox 4 is the latest version of one of the most popular web browsers. Most people have chosen Firefox as a replacement for Internet Explorer in the early days of web browsing. I remember that's what it was like for me. After getting tired of crashes and hanging, I switched to Firefox. When I switched to the Mac, I found Chrome to be a better and faster browser. But now, Firefox 4 is making me want to switch again. Here are some of the improvements over past versions of Firefox.
